Crossfield Wood

This is owned by the Woodland Trust and managed by the Barnes Charitable Trust on their behalf. The wood has an impressive stand of Beech, Oak and Yew. Some of the oaks which were planted in the middle of the last centuary had to be thinned and the wood has been used for a marvelous cleft oak paling fence. All the work was done using hand tools on site. The timber frame used for holding the cleft rails for finishing has been left standing.

There are nest boxes and bat boxes which are well used.
